The news of today’s cyber-attacks, particularly on the NHS,
are very worrying. It was comforting to
hear that, according to NHS spokesmen, no patient data had been compromised.
Marc Goodman in his book “Future Crimes,” points out that
reputable studies show that 62% of intrusions against business took at least 2
months to detect. Another study showed
that the average time from attack to detection was 210 days.
So, it is quite possible that whatever malware is currently
affecting NHS computers could have been around for quite some time. Goodness knows what could have been going on before
today’s visible manifestation?
