A conservative Voice to the Conservative Party

Another week of pure pantomime as our withdrawal from the European Union staggers from crisis to crisis in Parliament and the forthcoming days will show no respite as our European friends join the fray. The situation is so muddled that, even if we do actually leave the EU on 29 March next year, it looks likely to take years, if ever, before our relationship is sorted. Whilst I fully intend to live into my nineties and beyond, the profound changes to our country, if they ever come, are unlikely to affect me to any great extent.  So why should I be worried if our country should go to hell in  a handcart and what is it to do with me anyway?  Why does escape from the common fisheries and agricultural policies, the customs cartel and the Court matter? Why is the relentless purgatory of being out of Europe but being governed by Europe such a fearful prospect? At heart is the freedom to make our own laws and to vote out of office those of our representatives who we do not feel are doing the job well. From there springs the freedom to act as we fit in the interests of our country, our home within it, and our shared responsibility to our fellow citizens.  This autonomy and freedom of action allows us conservatives to learn from our past, respect our inheritance, and to live responsibly today so that the  world we bequeath can be a place where our successors may be equally proud to exist.  I feel like that because I am a conservative, not a touchy-feely modern kind, as you probably gather, but the Conservative Party should take note of people like me, or their indecision will seal their electoral fate, nay, their entire existence.
