The front page of the Times today gleefully predicts that
the EU is preparing for the imminent demise Mrs May’s government. An unnamed source,
but look no further than our old friend the “Rasputin of Brussels” Martin Selmayr
in all probability, says that Europe stands ready for all options including a
disorderly exit and even a reversal of the referendum. The source impertinently
reminds us that our sovereign democratic process was “very close.” But the EU
reports fail to mention the most likely outcome, that we continue to pay huge
sums to the EU coffers with progressively decreasing influence over how they
are spent in search of the chimera of access to their protectionist market and
customs union. Those of us who voted
primarily on the issue of sovereignty, an overwhelming percentage of leave
voters, are dismayed by the remainers tactic, aided and abetted by an
ambivalent leadership, to turn the whole Brexit process into a balance-sheet
pissing contest. Perhaps the fall of this government is to be welcomed since an
election on the issue of leadership might, at least, clear the air?
